Kevin passed away from pancreatic cancer on August 8, 2020. Kevin was an enthusiastic supporter of the Minnesota compost industry and the greater US compost industry.

At the request of the Tritz family and his company, Specialized Environmental Technologies / The Mulch Store, the Minnesota Composting Council is pleased to honor the life and legacy of Kevin Tritz by establishing and managing the Kevin Tritz Memorial Fund.

The Family and SET have requested that funds donated to the Kevin Tritz Memorial Fund be dedicated to research that brings sound science to the composting industry and education that furthers the public's understanding of the positive impacts to the environment of using compost. Please join us to honor his memory.

In the first two years since the fund was developed, over $40,000 has been raised for research and student scholarships to benefit the composting industry.

Kevin began his lifetime career in the environmental industry in 1969, hauling garbage for Woodlake Sanitation, which later became Browning-Ferris Industries (BFI). Early in his career, he was relocated to Des Moines, IA as a district manager. He returned to Minneapolis in 1987 and was tasked with developing the recycling programs that became the standard throughout the Twin Cities. He spent his later career as a nationally recognized innovator and creative force in the waste industry, organics recycling and composting. He and his business partner, Kevin Nordby, established Specialized Environmental Technologies (SET) which has led the way nationally in the composting and organics industry.
