Hosting Plate to Garden

Coordinate with the MNCC today to host a plate to garden event! Follow the instructions below for a complete walkthrough of the hosting process. Questions can be sent to [email protected].

NOTE: The MNCC assists with a few key steps, but a successful Plate-to-Garden event is driven by the host organization. Responsibilities for host organization include scheduling, filling bags, and paying for plate to garden expenses.

Request

  • Set a date by filling out a Plate to Garden Request form
  • Included in the form:
    • Decide on how much compost to sell:​
      • 10 cubic yards = 2 parking spaces = 500 bags of compost
      • Ensure drop location is accessible for participants and volunteers
    • Contact a composter to schedule delivery. Some recommended facilities are:
      • SET- TBD
      • SMSC- Jenny Appenzeller, [email protected]
        • NOTE: SMSC will provide free compost for PTG events. Host sites will only need to pay for delivery
    • Calculate the number of bags to use from MNCC
      • Price is __/bag not returned (used or missing)
      • Participants can bring their own bag

Prepare

  • Recruit volunteers
    • Bag fillers, cashiers, table attendants
  • Promote your event
    • The MNCC has provided basic templates for outreach:
      • Social media content
      • Press releases
      • Fliers
  • Coordinate delivery/pickup of MNCC-provided supplies
    • NOTE: Signage and supplies are scheduled on a first come, first served basis. Contact [email protected] 
  • Week of:
    • Clear area for compost delivery (if using public space make sure it is taped off)
    • Set up signs in well-seen area
    • Fill bags prior to event (morning of or day before depending on delivery time)
