Minnesota Composting Use Success Stories

WLSSD (located in Duluth) grants small amounts of Garden Green® compost to local nonprofits in exchange for prominent Garden Green® compost sign placement in the garden. Grantees agree to amend their soils according to best practice, and then go on to GROW, showing passers-by and the rest of us the benefits of compost. Special thanks to years' crop of grantees for showing us how good soils yield great results.

Compost use & specifications

Using compost brings many benefits to your project or garden. However, to fully realize those benefits it’s important to apply compost in a way that’s appropriate for the setting – whether that’s a small home garden or a large transportation project.

What equipment is needed

There are many different types of equipment that you can use to apply compost to your project. Large projects may require special blower trucks or conveyor systems, whereas small projects may need nothing more than a wheelbarrow or the bag the compost came in.

How do I buy quality compost

Using compost is a good first step, but using high-quality compost is even better. Finding compost suppliers and making sure that the compost you purchase has the qualities you need for your purpose are important in ensuring the success of your project.
